It's Official! Potty Time!

I think it's safe to post this entry. I had once before and it all went downhill. I know she has it this time though. Miss Jenna has been peeing on the potty for quite some time. She is never wet and almost always wakes up dry.

She's been very scared to poop on the potty though. We've asked but could never get a clear answer to why she was scared. I just think it was the uncertainty of what to expect. We've been bribing with Hershey kisses, a new toy (or two) all while trying to get her to understand it's OK to be scared without pressuring her.

A week ago, Jacob and Jenna were taking a bath. All of a sudden, Jenna shouts while standing up "Mommy, I gotta poop!" You can tell by her face that she's already starting to go. I yank her out of the tub and put her on the potty. She's hanging on to me, soaking wet, and starts going. She's scared but it's coming so really, she doesn't have much of a choice. She lets go some and looks in the toilet. Jacob and I are cheering her on and so excited. She goes A LOT! She even makes a comment about the tiny poops and says "Oh look at the baby poops!" in a very sing song, motherly voice. So what does a mom do? "Oh Jenna, baby poops! Yeah!" She's all done and announces "That wasn't so scary!" Yes! Woo hoo! Maybe we're onto something here. Then proceeds to tell me that she gets a toy. They don't forget a thing.

Now Jenna doesn't go everyday so two days later, in the bath again, she has to go and asks me to put her on the potty! Success again! After another successful try, that she actually wanted to do, we decide that the next day, she can wear panties. The thing with Jenna is that she never went at the same time so she's been in Pull-Ups for months although keeping them dry.

She's so excited to be wearing big girl panties and my heart just melts seeing that little heiny in them. Since the first day in panties, she's been telling us she needs to poop on the potty. Sometimes she has to go, sometimes she doesn't. She's had not one accident and has it down. I knew that the first time she went that there would be no looking back.

Oh and yesterday while she went, she said "Mommy, when I was a little girl, I wear Pull-Ups. I a big girl now, you know?"

Somehow she's talked Daddy into two new toys for her milestone...although I'm pretty sure I heard them talking and the ante is up to three.

So congratulations my sweet Jenna!

And every great milestone deserves an embarrassingly adorable picture! **Yes, she is wearing her Christmas shirt. She loves that thing!"

  1. Congratulations - to both of you! Potty training is such a HUGE milestone, and Miss Jenna should be very proud.
